The Lantern Festival, known as Yee Peng, takes place in Chiang Mai and is one of Thailand's most popular events. Nestled in the north of the country, Chiang Mai is surrounded by mountains and magnificent temples, providing an enchanting setting for this spectacular event.

When thousands of lanterns rise simultaneously into the night sky, the experience becomes magical. According to Buddhist belief, releasing a lantern allows you to rid yourself of evil spirits and negative energies from the past year. Furthermore, if you make a wish while lighting your lantern, it may come true, provided you perform good deeds in the following year.

Festival dates in 2024: November 15 and 16.

The program is identical for both days. When purchasing your ticket, you choose your participation date.

Important: One to two weeks before and after the festival, tourism in Thailand experiences a huge surge. It is therefore crucial to book hotels, flights, and excursions well in advance, not only in Chiang Mai but also in other tourist destinations throughout the country, including the islands. We also recommend arriving in Chiang Mai at least one day before the festival to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.
